What are some of the industrial uses for digital printers?

Philip Chu: Digital printers help industrial manufacturers provide printing flexibility and responsiveness while maintaining quality and durability.

Typical applications include industrial parts marking, shipping and name plates, control surfaces and housings, and other functional components or round or cylindrical objects. These printers are designed to serve businesses like screen and pad printers, industrial manufacturers, and in-house decoration departments.

What type of printer can I use to print on a variety of industrial products and surfaces?

Philip Chu: Among digital printing solutions, UV flatbed inkjet printers offer the most versatility in terms of the variety of surfaces and 3D objects they can print on directly.

Roland DG's VersaObject series offers a range of UV flatbed printers, such as the MO series benchtop and LO-COi series wide format printers, that can print on flat media and on objects. These printers can print directly on glass, wood, metal, plastics, cardboard and many other surfaces.

The VersaObject IO-300, available Fall 2026, is slightly larger than a B2-size class industrial UV flatbed inkjet printer, and designed to support high-mix, low-volume industrial production. It has an open-bed 31.4" x 21.4" platform, and can print forward and backward, making it easy to load and remove trays while printing is ongoing.

The IO-300 is designed to be a bridge between analog and digital methods, enabling rapid design changes and consistent output across a wide range of substrates including plastics, metals, glass, and composites.

What can I use to print on water bottles, glasses, tumblers, spirits bottles and other cylindrical objects?

Lily Hunter: The VersaObject RC-300 and RC-300c benchtop UV inkjet printers, available Fall 2026, are designed for printing on cylindrical objects, including tapered, convex, and concave items.

The series is intended to support short runs, premium customization, and fast set-up for applications such as spirits bottles, water containers, promotional items, and limited-edition packaging.

The RC-300c is specifically suited for printing on clear and translucent bottles either empty or filled, supporting beverage brands, packaging specialists, and manufacturers seeking digital alternatives to traditional decoration methods.

Both of these printers are designed to support a wide range of applications such as printing on plastic, glass, or metal, with simple calibration and print workflows and up to 50 presets for businesses that print on multiple products.

Can I print spot color on tubes as well as on bottles or cans?

Lily Hunter: Yes – both the RC-300 and RC-300c feature helical print technology and can print the full 360 degrees around. They can also print spot color, such as adding a brand name to cylindrical items like PVC pipe or adding customization to a preprinted item like a beverage can.

Can I print on curved objects?

Lily Hunter: Yes. The RC-300 and RC-300c can print on concave, convex or even tapered objects. The industrial printheads can jet primer and inks up to 10 mm deep (including 2-3 mm head gap from the printable object).

What kind of volume would I need to support one of these printers?

Lily Hunter: The RC-300 and RC-300c are designed to support a volume of anywhere from around 1,500 to 4,000 bottles or objects per month.

For those companies with a higher ongoing demand of thousands of bottles per day or week, Roland DG's LSINC Peri Series is an industrial direct‑to‑object solution, offering high-quality, seamless 360° printing on bottles, cans, jars, and other cylindrical, tapered or contoured objects. Using advanced digital UV inkjet and helical printing technology, these printers deliver consistent, wraparound graphics on glass, plastics, metals and more, at speeds that suit everything from short, personalized runs to high-volume production.

For these higher-volume companies, the RC-300 and RC-300c are intended to complement the LSINC Peri Series, allowing for prototyping and short run production.

How easy is it to learn to use these industrial application printers?

Philip Chu: Like all Roland DG printers, these industrial printing devices are designed to be easy to use, and easy to train others to use. Even if you've never used a printer before, some basic instruction along with the intuitive software and controls will have you up and running very quickly. 

Is software included with these industrial printers?

Philip Chu: All of our devices come with our proprietary RIP software, VersaWorks 7. VW7 can easily handle multiple printers and job queues. Roland DG Connect monitors and tracks your printer's maintenance to prevent downtime. Both also have optional subscription modules designed to help streamline your workflows.

What about durable inks for industrial printing?

Philip Chu: Roland DG recently announced the development of its new EUV-H7 hard ink, available Summer 2026, designed to meet industrial durability requirements traditionally addressed through analog printing.

EUV-H7 ink is compatible with VersaObject flatbed UV printing systems and with the IO-300, RC-300 and RC-300c printers, enabling durable output for industrial parts, electronic components, nameplates, packaging and functional markings. It has also been certified for use on toys.

Other VersaObject printers, such as the MO series of benchtop flatbed UV printers and the LO/COi series of wide format flatbeds, can also run Roland DG's EUV5 inks, which provide good durability along with the ability to create raised surfaces for applications such as Braille.
