Print/Cut Versatility Opens Doors for Screen Printing Business

Carl Baldwin has found the secret to attracting business and offering existing customers new, profitable items: his 30" VersaCAMM. "This machine gives me a way to generate new income and open the doors to new types of business," said Baldwin, president of Falcon Graphics based in Arlington, Texas.

Baldwin added the 30-inch inkjet printer/cutter recently to his screen printing and embroidery company as a way to reach out to new markets with customized items, low minimums and fast turnaround. He quickly found that the VersaCAMM's functionality also allows him to position his company as a one-stop shop that offers many of the same services as graphics and sign businesses.

"This machine gives me a way to generate new income and open the doors to new types of business."

Among other types of jobs, Baldwin uses the VersaCAMM to do numbering jobs for athletic teams using standard heat transfer material. He also cuts high-performance vinyl designs for vehicles, door signs and window graphics for small businesses. When customers need T-shirt samples before approving a screen print job, Baldwin avoids separations and costly press setup and instead relies on his VersaCAMM to quickly create transfers that serve as proofs.

"We've won jobs that way," he said. "Decorators who think quickly on their feet can solve many types of customer problems using the VersaCAMM. Just use your imagination. For instance, if a customer wants graphics on binders for presentations, but doesn't want to pay for screen setup for only 10 items, you can do it for him right away. And you can charge for that convenience, of course."
