Before
- AoSA Image offers its clients custom brand experiences, but had not been able to incorporate texture into its print projects.
After
- The addition of DIMENSE technology transformed flat graphics into tactile experiences.
- The texture added an elevated look for their creative designs and provided a new way to connect with clients.
Michael Hill, owner of AoSA Image in Huntington Beach, California, specializes in producing creative, authentic brand experiences. AoSA Image is a vertically integrated experiential marketing company with an in-house print and fabrication shop. Since 2006, Michael and his team have been focused on creating spectacular experiences for brands like Volcom, Nike, Toms, Obey, Clif Bar, and many more.
AoSA Image takes a wide view of the digital printing market, printing custom designs on everything from canvas, wood, and metal to structural fabrics like fiberglass.
Recently AoSA incorporated Roland DG's DIMENSE technology into its production area. We sat down with Mike to find out what appealed to him about dimensional surface printing, how he's incorporating this new capability into client projects, and what he sees for the future of brand experiences.

Your shop is known for taking an innovative approach. What aspects of DIMENSE production technology caught your attention?
Michael Hill: What stood out immediately was how the DIMENSE technology allows us to rethink traditional print applications. Its ability to add dimensionality transforms flat graphics into tactile experiences, which not only elevates small-scale signage but also creates an entirely new way to engage clients.
For us, it's a conversation starter—it gets people excited about possibilities they hadn't considered before. Beyond signage, it also opens doors for casting and paint solutions that weren't practical with our existing equipment, making it a natural extension of our lineup.

You also focus on sustainability—how did that impact your decision to incorporate dimensional surface printing?
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, so we were intentional in choosing technology that aligned with those values. DIMENSE uses PVC-free media, which fits directly into our material standards.
More importantly, the flexibility of producing textured, finished pieces in-house helps us reduce outsourcing and unnecessary shipping. That keeps waste down, improves turnaround, and strengthens our overall commitment to thoughtful production practices.

How have you used dimensional surface printing in your work?
We've applied it in a few different ways: Producing striking small-scale signage, prototyping dimensional castings for architectural clients, and exploring wallcoverings with unique textures.
Each application taps into the core strength of DIMENSE—its ability to add depth, character, and finish in a single process.
One standout was a project we did for Sweet Spot Media. We combined DIMENSE's textured plus plus media with ¼" red acrylic to create a three-level wall installation. The result resembled stamped concrete, but with integrated acrylic elements that gave it the look of classic signage layered into the design. Without DIMENSE, achieving that level of dimensional depth would have required CNC routing or extensive fabrication, which would have been costly and time-consuming. Instead, we were able to quickly produce the textured foundation, integrate the acrylic, and deliver a beautiful, durable wall feature that wowed the client. It's a great example of how this technology blends efficiency with creativity.

What do you see ahead for your business and your DIMENSE production?
We see DIMENSE as a bridge into more ambitious architectural finishes and custom design applications. It will continue to streamline signage for us, but more importantly, it positions us to offer clients hybrid solutions–like the Sweet Spot Media wall–that combine the tactile, the sustainable, and the classic. DIMENSE is a technology that makes it easier to say “yes” to experimental ideas, and we're excited to keep pushing what's possible.
