Terms and Conditions

Region: North and South America Excluding Brazil

By entering the 2018 “Discover Roland. Explore Africa.” Product Demo Contest you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

  1. INTRODUCTION. This Contest consists of two separate, but related contests (collectively referred to herein as the “Contest”). One is the Regional Contest and the other is the Worldwide Contest. The Regional Contest consists of participants from the described region(s). The Worldwide Contest consists of the individual winners from the various Regional Contests.
  2. SPONSOR. This Regional Contest is sponsored and administered locally by Roland DGA, 15363 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, California, USA 92618. The Worldwide Contest is sponsored and administered by Roland DG Corporation, 1-6-4 Shinmiyakoda, Kita-ku, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka-ken, 431-2103 Japan (hereafter referred to as “Roland DG”). Roland DGA and Roland DG are collectively referred to herein as “Roland” or the “Sponsor.”
  3. ELIGIBILITY. This Regional Contest is open to all individuals who participate in a Product Demonstration (defined below) of a Qualified Roland Product (defined below) and which legally reside in North and South America excluding Brazil, if such countries allow their residents to participate in this type of US-based Contest without additional requirements from Sponsor. The Worldwide Contest is only open to the individual winners from the various Regional Contests. The Contest is subject to all applicable national, federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void wherever restricted or prohibited by law.  Individual Participants must be at least 18 years old and over the age of majority in the jurisdiction in which they reside.  Employees of Roland DGA, their parent companies, subsidiaries, authorized dealers or resellers of Roland DG products, and advertising and promotion agencies or anyone working directly on this program, product and promotion and the immediate family members or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to enter.
  4. PRODUCT DEMONSTRATION. For purposes of this Regional Contest, a Product Demonstration of a Qualified Roland Product must be conducted with a Roland staff member or a Roland Authorized Reseller during the Entry Period (defined below). The Participant must be present for the Product Demonstration, in-person or on a live conference call (phone, audio or video). The minimum length of time for a Product Demonstration is five minutes.  All Product Demonstrations must be verified by Roland or the Roland Authorized Reseller who presented the Product Demonstration.
  5. QUALIFIED ROLAND PRODUCTS.  For purposes of this Regional Contest, qualified Roland products include any current Roland DG inkjet printer or printer/cutter that contains a manufacturer’s serial number, including:
    • TrueVIS VG-640 and 540 printer/cutters
    • TrueVIS SG-540 and SG-300 printer/cutters
    • SOLJET Pro4 XR-640 printer/cutter
    • VersaCAMM VS-300 printer /cutter
    • VersaStudio BN-20 desktop printer/cutter
    • SOLJET EJ-640 High-Volume Printer
    • VersaExpress RF-640 Printer
    • VersaUV LEF-300 and LEF-200 Benchtop UV Flatbed Printers
    • VersaUV LEF-12i Desktop Flatbed Printer
    • VersaUV LEJ-640 UV Hybrid/Flatbed Printer
    • VersaUV LEC Series UV Printer/Cutters
    • Texart XT-640 High-Volume Dye-Sublimation
    • Texart RT-640 Dye-Sublimation Printer
    The various Regional Contests may have different Roland products that qualify for their respective contest. A qualified Roland product for the Worldwide Contest shall be any product that was qualified for a Regional Contest Winner in compliance with their Regional Contest.
  6. DESCRIPTION. The Contest is skill-based and the object is to submit written comments of 285 characters  or less ( “Entry”) for judging for the chance to win prizes as described below. This Regional Contest will be conducted in English and Spanish. In the event that the Spanish translation of these Terms and Conditions conflict, the English translation shall control. This Regional Contest is conducted in the USA, and Entries and registration information is collected on computers located in the USA. The Contest is governed by California law, and by submitting your Entry you agree to accept jurisdiction and venue in the Courts of the California. The Worldwide Contest will be conducted in English. The Worldwide Contest is conducted by Roland DG. The Worldwide Contest is governed by Japanese law, and by submitting your Entry you agree to accept jurisdiction and venue in the Courts of the Japan.
  7. ENTRY PERIOD. The Entry Period for this Regional Contest begins at 12:00 AM Pacific Standard Time on 10/1/2018 and ends at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on 11/30/18.   The Entry Period for this Regional Contest may be amended or extended by Roland. All Entries in this Regional Contest must be received prior to the close of the entry period or any extensions thereof.  Any Entries submitted after the entry period or any extensions thereof will not be considered. Roland’s computer systems are the official time keeping device for the Contests.
  8. HOW TO ENTER CONTEST. 
    1. To enter the Contest.
      1. Roland’s Contest Website Page: After completing a Product Demonstration, you must visit Roland’s Contest website located at http://www.rolanddga.com/discover (the “Site”), and then complete the Contest Entry Form.
      2. Or where/when available you may complete a Product Demonstration and Contest Entry Form with Roland or an authorized reseller at their location or applicable trade show and other similar events (open house, etc.)
    2. On the Contest Entry Form, you'll be asked to provide the following information:
      1. Contact Info (name of individual Participant, address, phone, email)
      2. Contest Code (received from Roland representative who hosted the Product Demonstration)
      3. Location of the product demonstration:
      4. Product Demonstrated:
      5. Potential Purchase Time Frame:
      6. Your Entry which includes your creative comments that you wish to submit for judging in the Contest.
  9. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS. All Entries into the Contest must be original, must have been created by the Participant submitting the creation and must not incorporate or include anything that is owned by any third party without their permission or that would require the additional consent of any third party. Participant’s Entry must not violate any law or the copyright, trademark, publicity right, privacy right or any other right of any third party. Roland disclaims any and all liability for any infringement of any third parties’ rights in any submission caused by any Participant.
    1. Requirements for required creative comments:
      1. Comments must be in writing and consist of 285 characters or less.
  10. ENTRY LIMITS. For purposes of the Contest each Participant may submit one Entry per each eligible product demonstration. Any Entries submitted by the same person in excess of one per each eligible product demonstration will be disqualified and only the first Entry submitted by that Participant will qualify for entry in the Contest.
  11. CONTENT RESTRICTIONS. Entries must be appropriate for public display, posting on a public website and in marketing material. Entries should not mention any competitive products or manufacturers by name.  Entries must not be derogatory, offensive, threatening, defamatory, disparaging, libelous, slanderous or contain any content that is obscene, provocative or that violates the spirit of the Contest.  Roland retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content and to which Entries it will post publicly. You acknowledge and agree that Roland shall have no obligation to post, display or otherwise make publicly available any Entry or information submitted by you, and may, in its sole and unfettered discretion, remove, edit, modify or delete any Entry or information that you submit to Roland.
  12. PRIVACY. Participants agree that personal data, including all data collected during the contest’s registration process, may be collected, processed, stored and otherwise used for the purposes of conducting and administering the Contest and as provided in Roland’s Privacy Statement, located at https://www.rolanddga.com/company/privacy-statement. You understand and intend that any Entry or information submitted by you to Roland may be available for viewing, rating, review and comment on by the public, and understand that comments or ratings with which you disagree or are displeased by may be published or otherwise become associated with any Entry or information you submit to Roland. By submitting any Entry or information to Roland, you hereby waive any privacy expectations that you may have with respect to any such Entry or information submitted by you to Roland.
  13. JUDGING. For both the Regional Contests and the Worldwide Contest a panel of judges, consisting of employees of Roland or consultants designated by Roland to assist in judging (“Judges”) will review eligible Entries and select the respective winners by judging an entry as being the best overall Entry in one or more of the following three criteria:
    • Creativity: Overall creativity of the Entry (e.g., being original or imaginative).
    • Passion: Level of enthusiasm or passion expressed in the Entry (e.g., expressing passion and energy for Roland products).
    • Uniqueness: Uniqueness of comments.
      Entries will be judged entirely at the discretion of Roland. The decisions of the judges are final and binding.
  14. RIGHTS TO USE ENTRIES. As a condition of entry, you agree to grant Roland an irrevocable, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, create derivative works from, and display such Entries in whole or in part, on a worldwide basis, and to incorporate it into other works, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, including for promotional or marketing purposes. The Entries submitted by you shall be the property of Roland, and Roland shall have no obligation to preserve, return or otherwise make available to you or others any Entries so submitted. If necessary, Participant will sign any necessary documentation that may be required for Roland or its designees to make use of the non-exclusive rights Participant is granting herein.
  15. NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS. All Contest Winners will be announced within 3 weeks of the termination of the Entry Period. Winners will be notified by e-mail. Winners will be required to provide Roland with their contact information, an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability/Publicity release and any applicable tax documents. If a winner does not reply to such notification, the notification is undeliverable, and/or the necessary documents are not completed and returned within thee (3) days of prize notification, the winner may be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected based upon the judging criteria. Prizes will be awarded within approximately thirty days of notification.
  16. PRIZES.
    • (2) REGIONAL  CONTEST WINNER(S).  Two Regional Contest winner(s) will be awarded the following:
      • $500 Giftcard. A VISA giftcard in the amount of US$500.
      • Entry into Worldwide Contest. Regional Contest winners will be entered into Roland DG’s Worldwide “Discover Roland. Explore Africa” Product Demo Contest with a chance to win one of the two grand prizes described below.
    • (1) WORLDWIDECONTEST WINNER. One Worldwide Contest winner will be awarded his/her choice of one of the following two grand prize packages:
      • Prize Package A - African Safari. Worldwide Contest Winner who selects this Prize Package A will receive a trip for two (for winner and a guest) to Africa, including an African safari for two, airfare, accommodations, meals and guide.
      • Prize Package B – Cash. Worldwide Contest Winner who selects this Prize Package B will receive a cash award of US$5,000.
    Approximate retail value of the Worldwide Contest Winner Prize Package A is approximately US$18,000. Where applicable, values of prizes are based upon published MSRP. Travel prize value may vary based on airfare fluctuations and hotel availability. Travel arrangements must be booked through Sponsors’ agent and on a carrier of Sponsors’ choice. Travel arrangements cannot be changed in any way once booked and confirmed. Travel is subject to availability. All travel needs to be booked within one year from date of notification. Roland is not responsible for lost or stolen prize certificates/redemption letters or tickets. Winner is responsible for any other costs and expenses not specified herein as being awarded, including, without limitation, food, tours, gift shop purchases, incidentals, telephone calls or other personal expenses or hotel charges incurred. Where applicable, winner and guests must have a valid identification documents (passports, etc.) as required by airlines to travel, hotels for registration and car rentals to secure vehicle. Winner and guests must travel on the same itinerary, including departures/returns on the same flights on the same day. Airline tickets are non-refundable/non-transferable and are not valid for upgrades and/or frequent flyer miles. No substitution or transfer of prize permitted, except by Roland who reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prize is unavailable. Any costs or expenses associated with the acceptance and use of any Contest Prizes are the sole responsibility of the recipient, including, but not limited to travel insurance, travel to and from home airport, any purchases, taxes, gratuities, telephone and internet access costs, any costs of damages to accommodation, etc. Roland is not responsible for any damages or injury incurred by any Participant as a result of winning. Prize awards may be subject to country specific restrictions.
  17. TAX INFORMATION. All taxes, if any, on the prizes are the sole responsibility of the recipient. The recipients agree to provide any required information necessary to satisfy taxing authorities and to allow Roland to prepare and submit any required documentation related thereto prior to the award of their prize.
  18. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION. This Contest is void where it is restricted or prohibited by law. Submission of an entry form and/or acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Roland to use that Participant's name and Entry for promoting Roland products without additional compensation unless and where prohibited by law. By entering the Contest you agree to and hereby release and hold harmless Roland from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest, use or license of your Entry, or any prize. If you do not want to grant the foregoing release, please do not enter the Contest. By submitting your Entry in the Contest, you represent and warrant that it is your sole original work and/or that you have obtained any and all consents, releases, approvals or licenses required for you to submit your Entry and comply with all of these Terms and Conditions, including obtaining the written consent of all third parties, where applicable.
  19. AUTOMATED ENTRIES OR VOTES PROHIBITED: No mechanically reproduced, incomplete, forged, software generated or automated multiple entries or votes will be accepted.
  20. RULES AMENDMENT AND INTERPRETATION. This Contest and its continuing terms and conditions, benefits and participation are offered to Participants at the sole discretion of Roland. Roland reserves the right to amend or interpret the Terms and Conditions or official Contest communications and any element or elements arising under or relating to the Contest at any time, upon published notice to Participants on the Site. A Participant shall be deemed to have notice of any such amendments or interpretations upon publication of the same on the Site and shall be deemed to have accepted such amendments or interpretations by virtue of a Participant's continuing participation in the Contest. Should a Participant not wish to continue to participate in the Contest pursuant to the prevailing Terms and Conditions, as amended or interpreted, a Participant may terminate participation in the Contest by notifying Roland.
  21. LIMITATION ON LIABILITY. Roland is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of Entries. Roland assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Roland is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line-systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or combination thereof, including injury or damage to Participants or to any other person's computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in the Contest. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Roland, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Roland reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.
    By participating in the Contest, you agree to release and hold harmless Roland and its employees, officers, affiliates, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind resulting from your participation in the Contest, including infringement of intellectual property rights. Roland and its employees, officers, affiliates, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies assume no responsibility or liability for any damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind arising in whole or in part from the Contest.
