In a sea of new products, it can be confusing to decipher what all the latest bells and whistles really mean. But some “new and improved” products really are the best thing out there.
We sat down with Roland DGA Product Manager of Digital Print, Daniel Valade, to discuss which features enable the new TrueVIS XP-640 wide-format eco-solvent printer to provide users with speed and quality print production.
With all the great products already in its lineup, why did Roland DG decide to develop the XP-640?
Daniel Valade: Roland DG went a few years without what we would call a professional series print-only model like the old XF-640. Data from four and five years ago showed a prediction of a major slowdown in demand for eco-solvent printers. While we have seen the UV and latex markets grow, the eco-solvent market retains its strong overall market share, and our customers were continuing to ask for more productive devices.
The XP-640 builds off the VG3’s excellent reputation for high-quality output in a variety of ink sets to meet the needs of any print service provider looking to grow their eco-solvent business. It provides fast, precise, wide-gamut printing and unparalleled ease of use - all in one powerful production device.
How is the XP-640 different from other eco-solvent printers on the market?
Here are five key features that set the XP apart from its competition:
1. High-Speed Precision – The XP-640’s newly designed dual staggered printheads, inks, and high-speed data control allow users to maximize productivity while maintaining outstanding image quality. In fact, the XP is twice as productive as Roland DG’s previous print-only device, achieving speeds up to 819 square feet/hour.
2. Expanded Color Gamut – Roland DG’s TH inks, with available ink colors including CMYK along with red, light black, orange, and green, allow the XP to push the boundaries of high-quality, wide-gamut, eco-solvent printing.
3. Quality Prints: The XP-640, like all Roland DG wide-format devices, comes with its powerful yet easy-to-use VersaWorks 7 RIP software, now available for macOS and Windows. The program's True Rich Color settings, ensure rich, smooth coverage and offer users the ability to hit more brand colors with a whole new range of hues.
4. Economical Production – As with most roll-to-roll eco-solvent devices, the XP 640 has very low running costs per square foot. In fact, its operating costs can run less than $.20 per square foot and can be as low as $.10 per square foot. Roland’s TH inks not only offer an incredible color gamut but are also extremely efficient.
5. Ease of Use – The XP-640 is incredibly user-friendly, from its 7-inch color LCD touchscreen control panel to its intuitive yet powerful VersaWorks 7 RIP software. Its integrated automatic media take-up system allows for unattended production. Roland DG built the XP-640 to be powerful enough to produce the most complex prints while also being easy to set up, run, and maintain.
What types of applications can the XP-640 run?
Like all TrueVIS devices, the XP-640 is very versatile. Here are just a few of the most common applications it can be used for:
- Vehicle graphics
- Billboards
- Banners
- Event marketing
- Wall coverings
- Backlit signage
- Window and floor graphics
Anything else we should consider when looking at the XP?
Like all Roland DG devices, the XP comes with a two-year limited warranty that can be extended for a total of five years. Roland DG is known in the industry for its superior service and support.
