Internationally acclaimed two-time Best of Show recipient and Roland DG user, Bob Armstrong, received nine 2013 PIA (Printing Industries of America) "Benny" Awards at the annual Premier Print Awards Gala held on Sept. 8 in conjunction with PRINT 13 in Chicago. The Benny has become a universally recognized symbol for excellence within the printing industry and the Best of Show designation is the highest honor achievable through The Premier Print Award Competition sponsored annually by the PIA. Armstrong earned the top honor for the second year in a row.

Armstrong, who was a special guest at the Roland DG booth during PRINT 13, won Benny Awards in a variety of categories, including: Art Prints, Calendars, Booklet or Brochure Series, Service Catalogs (4 or more colors, non-printer), Book Jackets, Digital Printing - On-Demand, Other Special Finishing Techniques, and Print/Graphic Arts Self-Promotion (pre-press companies, finishing, advertising, and other graphic arts firms). In the Art Prints category, Armstrong also carried away first, second and third place honors for the second consecutive year.

Many of Armstrong's Benny Award-winning works, including the Best in Show 2014-2015 Calendar, the Art Prints, and Self-Promotion Book Cover, were printed on a Roland DG VersaUV® LEJ-640 UV-LED large-format, hybrid flatbed printer - a device the photographer relies on to produce flawless one-offs of original masterpieces from his renowned "Body of Work" collection. Incredible precision, exceptional detail and vibrant color are essential elements for each of Armstrong's prints, which sell for $25,000 and up. And, according to Armstrong, his LEJ-640 delivers on all of these fronts. "When we started Body of Work, our goal was to produce the best printed product in the world," said Armstrong. "In order to accomplish that, I knew that we would need a large-format printer capable of replicating all of the unique qualities, colors and subtleties of my original photos. The LEJ-640 has been able to do all that...and more."

Armstrong's Body of Work is the product of collective talent combined with state-of-the-art technologies, including the innovative features and capabilities of Roland DG's advanced LEJ-640 printer. Armstrong is quick to point out that this collaborative effort has produced extraordinary results, setting a "new benchmark for the development and application of original creative directions in communication strategy, design and photography, as well the establishment of new frontiers in print."

The prints offered within Armstrong's Body of Work Casino Collection, many of which feature top models from around the world, feature stunning UV-printed effects and unique, tactile-contoured finishes.

Armstrong displayed a selection of his prints at the Roland DG booth during PRINT 13 and shared insights on his creative process. In addition to interacting with Armstrong, booth visitors were able to see a VersaUV LEJ-640 in action. The company's newest introductions, including the SOLJET Pro 4 XF-640 - Roland DG's fastest printer ever - are on display at the Roland DG booth and at the PRINT 13 "Inkjet Candy Store."
