Monday Moanin'

What’s with all the economists making predictions lately? I suppose that’s what economists are paid to do, but on any given day we can read that the economy is heading into another recession, or that the economy is slowly improving, or some combination of the two. Come on, can’t we all just get along?

But maybe the real issue isn’t that the economists all have different opinions. Perhaps the real issue is that the press keeps reporting the various economic opinions. One day the economic news is positive and the stock market soars and businesses think about expansion. Two days later the economic news is bad and the stock market tanks and businesses stop expanding and look to cut costs. Then the cycle starts over again. Rinse – lather – repeat. Come on, is this any way to run a railroad?

How about we put all the economists in a room and don’t let them out until they have an agreed upon opinion as to where the economy is heading? Good, bad or otherwise, the press can then report real news and businesses can get on with it. Yeah, I know. Pure fantasy. But these fits and starts are not healthy and they make the job of reading the tea leaves and developing a go-forward strategy that much more difficult for all of us.

OK – got that off my chest and I feel better already. Despite the economic wackiness, we’re full speed ahead at Roland DGA. Only time will tell if we moved too fast or too slow, but in the last two weeks we’ve introduced three new printer models, two of which use silver ink and the third uses UV ink – all three of which will allow our customers to do something new and as a result offer something new to their customers. Silver ink and the metallic color spectrum that the new VersaCAMM VS series printers can produce are especially hot right now. Unfortunately, metallic color is one of those things that doesn’t look especially good on a monitor – you need to see the real output to fully appreciate the effect. If you haven’t seen the actual output at a tradeshow or at one of our dealer locations, contact us for a sample.

Thanks for checking in.
