L.A. Kings Zamboni Gets the Royal Treatment

The Los Angeles Kings hired Jesse James, TV star and owner of West Coast Choppers, to turn its Zamboni into a major halftime attraction … something the fans could really get excited about. Needless to say, the team put the job in good hands.

James decked out the vehicle with chrome wheels, skull-themed knobs, leather accessories and other special touches. Then, after his artist designed the graphics, James towed the Zamboni down to Orange County and left the project in the capable hands of Eric Goodwin, owner of Garage Graphics.

Using a Roland SC-545EX printer/cutter with MAX ink, Garage Graphics wrapped the Zamboni with a flaming King’s crown, a massive West Coast Choppers logo and a huge Bud Light logo. Today, when the supped up Zamboni hits the ice at halftime, the fans at Staples Center act as though the Kings just scored a goal. They love it!

“I was thrilled to see the Zamboni arrive at our shop,” said Goodwin. “Looking back at all the vehicle wraps we’ve done over the years, this was definitely one of the coolest jobs we’ve ever done.”

Before Goodwin got started, he quickly recorded the Zamboni’s extra-large dimensions. This enabled him to produce graphics (9 feet long by 5 feet tall) that fit the Zamboni like a glove.

“We had one day to print the graphics and wrap the Zamboni,” said Goodwin. “Fortunately, everything went perfectly. In less than two hours, our Roland SOLJET printed all of the art with perfect colors and no banding. Everything came out looking awesome!”

After Goodwin printed the graphics, he protected them with Roland Premium Cast Gloss Overlaminate Film. “This was just a dream job from start to finish,” said Goodwin. “The media installed perfectly and the Zamboni seemed to instantly come to life.”
